Review of duolingo

Duolingo.com is a language learning web site to learn Spanish, French, German,
Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Greek, Hebrew, Russian and many others languages. It is an
online based learning process where English is used as the media of the native language and the target language. It has also a mobile version app called Duolingo, which was released on May 29, 2013. Through this wed site or mobile app you can practice your speaking, reading, listening and writing vocabulary while playing a game. This app will increase your vocabulary and grammar skills of the target language by answering question and completing lessons.

This web site serves for the beginners who want to learn a language in a fun and rewarding way. After signing in once the user can use the web site anytime by logging in. The progress will be stored. This language learning process is quite easy for the learners who have the basic knowledge in English, as English serves here as the translator of the target language.

Duolingo is quite easy to run. It has several steps that are followed by proper instruction. This learning web site starts with regular vocabulary and basic grammar. Young child can also run the wed site easily. The steps of learning new language are like, first introduce with basic vocabulary associated with grammar, then plurals form, phrases, name of animals, food, sports, pronoun, adjectives, questions etc. The app continuously motivates the learners. It provides the instant feedback like the if the answer is right then the instant feedback will be “you are correct” and if the answer is wrong then the feedback will be “ you are not correct” as well as show the correct answer instantly.

This picture shows the instant feedback of this app system. In this learning process it
continuously gives motivation to the learners. After giving a series of right answer
it encourages the learners like saying, you are doing very well or excellent! So the app
or this web site is a continuous source of motivation to the learners.

Limitations: The web site is a very good source of learning a new language though it
has some limitations too. It does not give enough explanations to the users when it
needed. Some words have the same meaning but they use for different pattern. But why they do not use as the same words that explanation is not provided here. Another big problem is in this app there is no real life chatting or talking. It only provides some same sentences with same words. Learning a new language would be more easy if are real life talking using the new language. As here is no explanation for  sentence pattern, some people only guessing the right answer without knowing the right reason.

Another limitation of this learning web site is here is no chance of interaction. Without
interaction one can not gain the proper input of a target language. Though one can get
some idea of  written form of a language, he/she will not get the efficiency of listening
and speaking skills. Another limitation of this app is it can not hold the toy effect
theory. After using the app for 3-4 weeks the users get bored of it and do not use
it as eagerly as they were used to use it.

Apart from some limitations, duolingo.com undoubtedly one of the best language
learning wed sites in the world. It is extremely easy to use so any people of any
ages can use the web site. If the developer of the web site brings some change of
it then this web site will be more popular and useful for the users. The developer
should add explanation where needed. If it has some real life chatting with the native
people of that target language then it will be more beneficial for the language
learners. The speech lessons should be more interaction and clear to understand.
Making some changes in this learning web site, undoubtedly it will be a wonderful
source of learning. It will be more helpful for the people who want to learn different
languages at home.
